About

Meals on Wheels Moreton Bay Region

Meals on Wheels has been operating in communities for more than 65 years, founded in 1956 by the late Rhonda Cameron, who saw a need in her local community for a meals delivery service. Meals on Wheels in Queensland, operates in over 140 communities, delivering on its core promise of More Than Just a Meal, providing our clients and their families with peace of mind, a genuine sense of community, companionship and a regular check on their welfare with every nutritionally balanced meal delivered.

Meals on Wheels reduces the economic impact of an aging demographic

  • Older Australians need to eat well to age well.
  • More than 1 million older Australians are at risk of malnutrition.
  • The rate of falls in the home, as a consequence of poor eating, is increasing and is a high volume call out for the Queensland Ambulance Service.
  • The impact on acute health care will only continue to grow as older  Queenslanders trade off spending fixed incomes on good eating for paying for other “essential services”, eg energy and water bills.
  • Meals on Wheels is a service model proven to improve nutritional health status. Malnutrition is preventable.
  • Weight loss is not a consequence of aging.
